Once you have joined BEST through a successful referral, we will try to offer you our services.

The outcome of W.A.S.P. in session 7 is that your personal profile is translated into a basic CV. You can then begin to further shape your CV to reflect how you view what you can offer to prospective employers. To find these employers you will need to know where to look – and we will assist you with this.
Should you feel you are ready to rehearse for an interview, we will support you by doing practice runs and will advise you on useful approaches to the interview process.
It is sometimes quite difficult to explain your work history if there are gaps or many short-lived jobs and you have experienced problems at work (either caused by, or causing, mental health problems). We look at each case on merit and advise you on the best way to turn negative things and/or problems into assets and/or strengths. We can then rehearse how you can overcome or side-step objections or concerns in a positive way which is true to your life experience and doesn't involve stigma or ‘hiding’ the difficult parts of your mental health history.

It is a requirement that a person is in receipt of a sickness related benefit or credits e.g. Incapacity Benefit, Income Support with a Disability Premium or Disability Living Allowance, before they access the service.
We are available however, to give basic advice on Welfare Benefits and the options available to people who are exploring the possibility of work experience or paid employment. We liaise closely with the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) and are able to seek advice and further information on someone’s behalf. We can help you to complete the forms which are required by the DWP in relation to unpaid work experience or permitted work.
If we are unable to answer any query regarding benefits, we will signpost you to the service that will be best able to assist you.
