The team also delivers a range of group activities both in mental health and mainstream settings, with the aim of developing confidence and providing opportunities to others. Referrals can currently be made through care coordinators. However, in the near future people will be able to refer themselves.

A very warm welcome to Sue, our new team member. I joined BEST in April 2007 as an Employment Officer. My previous work has been working for Bolton Council for 26 years in Personnel, including working in the Careers Section of the Education & Arts Department.

At BEST my role involves assessing and preparing people with recognised mental health problems for access to mainstream
employment opportunities.

We are delighted to announce that the large ‘hole’ made by the departure of the Learning Disabilities Employment Team from Office 3 has been filled in by the arrival of Park Lodge joining BEST at the Ashburner Street offices. This geographical move is part of a larger change in how Bolton’s Mental Health Services are being restructured around Social Inclusion and Recovery, exciting developments ahead!

This new change also brings a new name to the group: Active Choices.

Active Choices offers one-to-one support to enable peoples recovery from mental health difficulties to pursue leisure, educational and health & exercise interests in the local community.
